No equestrian events until end of June

n a press conference on Monday morning on the further course of action in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus, the Austrian Federal Government announced that events of any kind will not take place in Austria until the end of June 2020.

"These measures naturally hit our organizers hard. Because this means that all equestrian events cannot take place until the end of June. Last Friday we already had 82 tournament cancellations," said OEPS President Elisabeth Max-Theurer. "On the other hand, we can already start planning for July, because I think that our sport in particular is an individual sport with little contact to other people and therefore means little danger for our athletes in terms of corona spreading, if you strictly adhere to the hygiene regulations of the Federal Government.

And the Olympic champion of 1980 adds a recommendation here as well: "Even when planning new equestrian events from July 2020, we urgently recommend to closely observe the further development of the situation and the resulting gradual adaptation of the rules and corona regulations."

In this context, the Austrian Equestrian Federation has set up a task force for further scheduling. OEPS Secretary General Dietrich Sifkovits is confident: "After the Easter week a good common solution for the remaining tournament year will be found by video conferences with all participants. Together we will use all the horsepower we have and bring it to the ground."
